VF-121 is the first F9F-8 squadron to qualify all its pilots in air-to-air refueling, according to NAS Miramar. The Pacemakers commanded by Cdr. R. E. Rhodes worked with AJ Savage tankers from VC-6. The squadron timed their rendezvous perfectly off the coast at San Diego, California.
