A-4A Skyhawk
BuNo 139947

Naval Unit Chanute received this A-4 in June 1987 for use in Nondestructive Inspection School here on base. The aircraft was refurbished and dedicated in Chanute's Thunderbird Airpark on 10 June 1988. It was named "Lucy" in honor of Mrs. Lucy Goff, past director of Rantoul Armed Services YMCA and member of Chanute's Heritage Friends of Fame.

Our A-4A, BuNo 139947, was not used by the Blue Angels but it was painted in the Blue Angels' colors by the Naval Unit simply because so many of the USAF aircraft on display in the airpark were painted like the Thunderbirds by Gen. Moore, a former Thunderbird commander! The Naval Unit Chanute just wanted to show the navy's best colors.

The Thunderbird Airpark has been closed and most of the display aircraft not reside at Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum.
